This close-fitting hat and bulky mitten set is worked with either a heavy worsted yarn held double or a super-bulky yarn. The daisy motif is a little fiddly to work, but only for two rounds—and after that, the rest goes really quickly!
SIZES: One size, to fit average woman.
FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Hat: circumference is approximately 20 inches (53 cm); Mitts: palm circumference is approximately 8 inches (20 cm).
YARN: Cascade Yarns Ecological Wool (100% wool; 478 yds/437 m per 250g skein); color 8049; 1 skein to make both hat and mitts.
Yarn substitution note: the recommended yarn is an Aran/heavy worsted weight. When held double, it works up to a super-bulky yarn. For the hat, you will need about 160 yards (122 meters) of Aran/heavy worsted weight yarn or 80 yards (61 meters) of super-bulky weight yarn. For the mittens, you will need about 170 yards (130 meters) of Aran/heavy worsted weight yarn or 85 yards (65 meters) of super-bulky yarn.
Recommended yarns: Test knitters were happy with Cascade Eco+, Brown Sheep Lamb’s Pride Worsted, Lion Brand Thick & Quick, and Sandnes Garn Easy.
NEEDLES: Hat: US #11 [8.0 mm] circular needle, 16 or 20 inches long; US #11 [8.0 mm] double-pointed needles, set of four or five. Mittens: US #11 [8.0 mm] double-pointed needles, set of four or five.
GAUGE: 12 sts/16 rows = 4 inches/10cm in stockinette stitch with yarn held double (or single for super-bulky yarn)
SKILLS NEEDED: Working in the round, slipping stitches, basic decreases
