New Pattern and a Contest!
Your regularly scheduled Friday roundup will be back next week—but today I have a new pattern release to show off! (And a contest! See the bottom of this post for a chance to win a copy of the pattern book.)
Here are the specs:
Pattern: Woodmere Mitts (Ravelry link), published in Knit Picks’s Petite Presents collection.
Yarn: Knit Picks Wool of the Andes Sport, shown in Marina and Dove Heather. The mitts as shown used about 2/3 skein of the main color and about 1/2 skein of the contrasting color.
Notes: This pattern was so much fun to design! Like my Mystic Falls Mitts, I decided to go with a totally different pattern on the back and front of the mitts. This keeps things interesting, and having a simple, easy to memorize pattern on the palm is a nice break after the more complex colorwork on the back.
I also included instructions for plain, single color mitts with this pattern. It’s a good basic recipe (and you can add your own twist to with variegated yarn or texture patterns, if desired).
And now, on to the important stuff! First of all, let me just say that this is probably my favorite Knit Picks pattern collection of all time. The book is gorgeous. There are thirty(!) accessory and home patterns in it, all made with less than 150 grams of yarn. That means it’s ideal for anyone with a big leftovers stash. Seriously people, the only reason I’m giving away a copy is that Knit Picks graciously sent me two!

Thanks for the giveaway! I love using little scraps to make something special. Don’t have many right now, just finished a linen stitch scarf.
My leftover sockyarn is quite big. I diveded it into three different bags. One White the big ones ( enough for a pair of striped socks) another one for my blanket, and the small ones for maybe “bluebird of happiness.
My leftovers stash isn’t super-big, but it’s on its way. Mainly worsted, but some fingering and lace, too. I love finding patterns that could use these small amounts, since I really hate wasting yarn!

My leftovers are all amongst my stash. I cannot bear to waste any bits of yarn so they just await a very special project.
my left over stash just keeps getting bigger but there is so many projects in this book i can see it shrinking,i hate throwing away yarn it can be used in so many ways even small bits, i can so see me making the sheep clock for a friiends xmas gift not too early to think of them is it lol

My leftover stash has always kind of been hidden all over since I have never figured out what to do with it. I’ve only recently started gathering all of the leftover bits and bobs into a plastic bin so at least I can SEE what I have. I was already coveting this book when I got the catalog this week, now even MORE so! Beautiful pattern.
I have a fair amount of leftovers…not huge, but definitely not small either!

I have a fairly limited leftover stash because I’m a fairly new knitter and if it’s only a small amount I tend to throw it away, I should clearly be keeping it!
My leftovers stash outgrew the two dresser drawers and has moved into clear bins in the closet. My goal is to “spend down” my stash this year, because it’s such nice stuff. It deserves to be knitted up into wearable items. Thankfully, I tend to use the same type of yarn, so the leftover bits do go well together.
My leftovers stash is probably mid-sized and is mostly sock yarn at this point. I keep thinking I will start a blanket someday but never do, so it would be great to have some other ideas of how to use it.

I love the hats, mittens and all the other gifts featured in your book. The fact that it’s a stash buster just makes it all the better! A must have, for sure!
I keep all my leftovers in a gallon-sized zip top bag, where they wait patiently for their chance for glory. I may eventually make a magic skein or find a scrap shawl pattern. If it’s a particularly lovely discontinued yarn, a sample gets prepared for a scrapbook, soon to be a reality!

My leftovers are sorted by weight. I try to use them for colorwork or small projects. I have tons of fingering weight scraps that may become a blanket eventually.
