Helix

Helix hat back view

$3.50

Constructed from the top down, Helix requires only one skein (about 65g) of worsted-weight yarn. Perfect for that single skein of luxury yarn you’ve been hoarding!

Pattern includes charts and written out instructions. All cables and twists are worked over only two stitches, making this hat a perfect candidate for the cabling without a cable needle technique.

SIZE: The pattern is written for a size to fit most adult heads. If you’d like to knit it for a larger head, instructions are included in the pattern to make the hat at a slightly bigger gauge, as below:

FINISHED MEASUREMENTS: Medium (20 in/51 cm circumference): gauge of 18 sts/28 rows to 4 in/10 cm in stockinette st. Large (22 in/56 cm circumference): gauge of 17 sts/26 rows to 4 in/10 cm in stockinette st. Shown in size Medium.

YARN:  Dream in Color Classy (100% merino; 250yds/ 229m per 113g skein); color Bermuda Teal; 1 skein.

NEEDLES: Medium: Set of four or five US #7 [4.5 mm] double-pointed needles, or size required to achieve correct gauge; US #7 [4.5 mm] circular needle, 16 or 20 inches long. Large: Set of four or five US #8 [5.0 mm] double-pointed needles, or size required to achieve correct gauge; US #8 [5.0 mm] circular needle, 16 or 20 inches long.

NOTIONS: Stitch marker, cable needle (if not using cabling-without-a-cable-needle technique), yarn needle. A row counter is helpful for keeping track of where you are in the pattern.

GAUGE: Medium: 18 sts/28 rows = 4 inches/10cm in stockinette stitch on US #7 [4.5 mm] needles. Large: 17 sts/26 rows = 4 inches/10cm in stockinette stitch on US #8 [5.0 mm] needles.

SKILLS NEEDED: Working in the round, cables, basic increases.
