Elva Cardigan and Pattern Book Contest!

58

My newest sweater pattern is included in Knit Picks’ Golden Morning collection! This is the Elva Cardigan:

51885220_9 copyHere’s the description from the pattern:

This flowy, lightweight cardigan is designed to be worn open or with a skinny belt. The garter fan pattern, charted and described line by line, adds a gorgeous detail to the sweater back, while easy raglan shaping and flattering lines make Elva easy to pull on and hard to take off.

Constructed from the bottom up, the sweater is worked seamlessly with raglan sleeve shaping. The elbow-length sleeves are worked with a slight flare at the cuff and then joined to the body at the yoke.

Elva frontI’ve been in love with the laceweight-at-a-loose-gauge concept for sweaters since I knit myself a Featherweight Cardigan years and years ago. It was my go-to sweater when I lived in LA: just the right amount of warmth for overactive air conditioning or a cool-ish night, but small and lightweight enough to fit in my purse. So I thought it was about time I designed one myself!

Bonus: laceweight yarn sweaters are very economical. This one only takes 2-4 hanks of Knit Picks Shadow (a really lovely yarn with subtle heathering that gives the finished sweater shine and depth).

I added a little flair with the fun-to-knit lace pattern on the back:

Elva back closeKnit Picks generously sent me two copies of the Golden Morning pattern book, so you know what that means–it’s contest time!

Golden Morning coverTo be entered to win, leave a comment on this post and tell me what you’re planning for spring and summer knitting. Do you switch over from wool pullovers to lace shawls, or carry on with bulky accessories all year round?

I’ll use a random number generator to choose the winner this Friday morning, so comment by the end of day on Thursday to be entered! I’ll ship anywhere in the world, so this contest is open to everyone. Good luck! :-)

Fewer hats and gloves in the summer, I think, more shawls and bags. I certainly stay away from the big sweaters.

I have some patterns stacked up for cowls and socks, so I’ll probably be sticking to those. A light shawl would be a nice add-in though!

      Love KnitPicks new book!

I’ll probably be beginning afghan squares for an afghan for my engages son. As well as continuing work on a scarf I’ve designed. Both are easy take-along projects which I like for summer.

Congratulations on having your pattern in this booklet!

My knitting changes a bit seasonally. I cannot bear to have a pile of alpaca on my lap during the summer. Lace is always a favorite, and laceweight yarn is a staple in my stash. I think I keep my knitting focus on smaller things that will not cover all of me as I knit them, but if they are large, they need to be light.

I’m definitely very into shawls right now. And adorable wee baby sweaters.

Putting away the wool sweaters in favor of lighter accessories and cardigans. I’d love to try my hand at knitting something in linen this summer, maybe a tee!

I put away the wool cardi I’ve been knitting to start a lovely striped pullover knit in Knit Picks Shine sport weight. I love the softness and drape of the Shine- very different than working with wool. I love your Elva Cardigan. So pretty!

Thanks for the giveaway, and congratulations on the new pattern! I love it. I’m working slowly away on a DK weight pullover, interspersed with placemats and twiddlemuffs (for dementia patients) and mitts and other easy travel knitting and closer-to-instantaneous gratification projects. I can always fall back on fingerless mitts and cowls as I wear them year-round in my air-conditioned office. But they’re usually closer to lightweight rather than bulky since I don’t like wearing bulky. I do the occasional Aran or bulky weight project as gifts.

This was such a long winter, I am switching over to cardigans, lacy scarves and shawls.
I need Spring in my life, weather-wise and knitting-wise!

    Thanks for the giveaway!

What a beautiful pattern! I am planning on knitting a fingering weight shawl and cardigan, but I will also be working on a fair-isle wool sweater for next winter. I can’t wait to get started on them! Best wishes! :)

I’ll still be making mostly socks, but hopefully some lightweight sweaters and some shawls in there too! :) This cardigan is beautiful.

Shawls… Plenty of pretty laceweight shawls! :) Though this year I’ve been lusting after laceweight sweaters for spring/summer and this one is soooo lovely!

I have a lightweight sweater planned for summer knitting, as well as socks! I’ll work on that until August, when I start getting antsy for fall and break out the wools again :)

Congratulations on being published!! Your pattern is lovely.

I’m currently in the process of knitting up the stripes and polka dots scarf from the Spring Accessories booklet. Normally I knit up accessories most of the year, blankets during the winter. I’ve got to say the patterns in this book make me want to knit that striped shirt.
I usually knit with wool, acrylic or wool blends for most of the year, and this is the first time I’ve been working with cotton yarn. Comfy is literally the softest thing ever and now I have to make more items with it.

I’d love to find a shawl pattern that would work with a wheelchair. The beautiful lace is always hidden by the chair back and the shawl gets caught in the wheels. It almost has to be worn backwards. Hmm, have to think about that.

Lovely pattern & so nice of you to give the book to some lucky person & that you are willing to mail it anywhere!

I knit what ever I like when I want. We have a great niece & a great nephew on the way & a great, great niece who arrived a few days ago, so right now I am knitting a baby sweater.

I apologize if this has entered me twice. My first attempt came up with a timing error, so it looked like it didn’t go through.

it’s not so much a seasonal knitting change.. more of what I have on hand.. what comes across my attention.. how long it stays.. swatch it, watch it.. see how it grows..

Golden Morning – may we all enjoy each one

I bought sock yarn for a lightweight pullover a while ago that I’m hoping to knit up this spring or summer so that I’ll be able to wear it by the time the weather becomes cool enough again in the fall. Other than that, I’ll probably be knitting a shawl or two, because I pretty much knit shawls year-round. :-)

What a lovely sweater! I live in a hot climate, so I make and wear lightweight things all year round. And I tend to stockpile laceweight yarn because it’s economical for buying sweater quantities, even if it then takes forever to finish anything!
