FO Friday: Arwen Slipper Socks

8

I finished these last week, but I’m just now getting around to blogging them:

Pattern: Arwen Slipper Socks (Ravelry link) by Tabitha’s Heart

Yarn: Malabrigo Rios in Indecita

Notes: I LOVE these. They are fabulously colorful and comfy, and they fit my size 9.5 narrow feet like a dream. I got them both out of one skein of Rios with 10g to spare.

My only modification to the pattern was to eliminate the plain round between decrease rounds for the last 4 toe decreases, since it was turning out a little too pointy for my taste as written. This made a lovely rounded toe:

I’m not generally a sock person (too much work for something that wears out too quickly, in my experience), but slipper socks in worsted weight are right up my alley. In fact, I had so much fun knitting these that I immediately started in on a design idea I had a while back. There may be bobbles involved. Stay tuned for an update on those!

Hi! Nice socks! I really like your blog too.. do you have a suggestion for an alternate yarn for the Chandail pattern, like something from Knit Picks?

Hi Lisa! Thanks for the nice comment on my socks. For Chandail, you could use Knit Picks Gloss HW/Aran (one of my testers used this and it looked great). Or Swish Worsted would work. If you’re just looking for an inexpensive yarn, I knit a version in Cascade 220 that turned out really well.

      Hope this helps!

The socks look very good, i love worsted or sport weight socks for the winter time they keep your feet nice and toasty warm. The colors like very good.

Nice socks. How long do you have your socks until they are worn out? I usually have my handmade ones for more than ten years. I think that’s really worth the work. I guess that qualifize me as a sock person. ;-)

Oh, I’m impressed! I think it’s a combo of the way I walk and the narrowness/pointiness of my toes. I always get holes at the heel and end of the toe area. Possibly I could knit at a very tight gauge to combat this, but all in all I think I’d rather stick to worsted, heh.

Excellent sock work! I’m a sock newbie (I have some plans for the future…) and I do like the slipper sock. Although you don’t get to show them off that way!!
So socks with bobbles huh?? Sounds interesting. I’ll stay tuned!
